Marriage

Summary: >

A group of cute girls out of high school... and they're all starting to think about the same thing... marriage. It seems like a simple concept, but as the girls have already learned, getting the right guy isn't quite as easy as it seems. "Marriage" is an sort of, a more in depth look at a the activity, which still manages to be slightly more popular than divorce.

Thoughts: >

At first I thought: "Oh, this seems sort of cute". And it really did seem that way. Then the plot sort of didn't go anywhere. If it was trying to build in any direction it never quite made it. I also wasn't very impressed with the semi-super deformed (hard to explain) sequences with marriage statistics. The story was sort of dull, but cute at times. The dubbing was okay, with the exception of one VA in particular... The romance was also sort of dull, and the comedy was... flat.

Alright, that's pretty much the rundown of "Marriage". But I think there is something to be said about a title like this that makes it really, I'm not sure what the term would be; bizarre? I mean who is this title aimed at? Women? I have a hard time believing that any woman so desperately seeking a man simply to enslave him would be interested in this title. Is it aimed at men? I guess this must be a cultural thing, but personally I would think that watching an anime that is nothing but a bunch of women seeking marriage (not a MAN, but marriage TO a man), is somewhat terrifying to men.

Now as a side point, I'd like to say Japan has hell of a lot of hot women. And judging by the porn you may come across (or even just random links pointing there), many of these women are willing to do unbelievably kinky stuff. Even so, Japan is currently having a population crisis. Indeed Japan's birth rate is not only not self sustaining, but looking towards a population crash. Last survey put the fertility rate at 1.25 (kids per couple). Now looking at the statistical weirdness off "Marriage", I can only conclude that this must be some sort of misguided attempt by the Japanese government to get people to reproduce - even anime crazed otaku who normally remove themselves from the gene pool by never finding a partner. I can't think of any other reason for this sort of title. Why this would be imported to North America? There is a bigger mystery.

So to be sure, "Marriage" is an anime to avoid. There is nothing here to satisfy your anime cravings. Nothing to entertain you. It is simply a boring existence meant to suck your soul out slowly. So I guess you could say "Marriage" is like... marriage.
