Combustible Campus Guardress

Summary: >

It was 30,000 years ago when the world was almost thrown into chaos when the gate to the demon world was cast open. At that time only one person could manage to seal the gate, but at the cost of his own life. Those elements are all lost in the pages of history. However, as they say; history repeats itself.

In the present things are beginning to conspire in a way that will certainly threaten to open the gate to the demon world once more. And the leader of the demons on this world: Touta has just been re-awakened. The demons trapped in this world (known as remnants) slowly make their way towards the gate to the demon world, which is located under a high school, and protected by a special few (known as guardians). The key to the gate is a boy named Takumi - he's the reincarnation of the one who sacrificed himself in order to close the demon gate a long time ago. The main person in charge of protecting him is his sister (not related by blood) Hazumi. Hazumi adores Takumi above all else and can't really bring herself to profess her love to him (thinking he doesn't know that they're not REALLY related at all). She swore to protect Takumi above all else, but the question is: is she simply protecting him until he meets his destiny as he did 30,000 years ago? As the remnants draw closer and closer it looks like events are unfolding exactly as they did in the past. The difference this time however may be the fact that Touta has been driven mad by hatred and lives for nothing but to see Takumi and Hazumi dead. And Hazumi herself is unsure of this whole business. After all if Takumi means more to her than anything else, then what good is sealing this gate if Takumi ends up dead?

Right, so it's an anime where people have to close a demon gate to save the world. We've seen this how many times? (Excuse me as I say this) - But you haven't quite seen it like this. In many ways this follows the same path as the aforesaid anime, but its the perverse sense of humor that really sets this one apart. And when I say humor, I really do mean humor. Campus Guardress follows the serious path all the way, but never takes itself seriously the entire time. All the way through it's honestly funny and just all out zany, without really devolving itself into being stupid: a trap so so many anime titles fall into.

And in no way is the production quality low either. In a way it keeps you on your toes because typical humor oriented titles just never have animation this good. And that's also a good thing because aside from humor, this title is heavy in the action department. And it's strange because it catches you off guard a lot, it almost looks like it's getting serious, and with the quality animation you believe that it's really going to get down to business, only to pull some sly joke when you don't expect it.

The other mainstay of this title is the absolutely ridiculous attack names, such as "Heavenly Lord Stroke; Comet Tornado Drop". What in the hell does that mean anyway? Also interesting is that people who are guardians draw their powers from what they do in real life. House wives attack with pots and food supplies, and Mr. Porno mags... well you know...

I'd honestly say this is among my favorite anime titles. It's all fun and action the way such a title should be done. It is however a bit of a niche title. It's got a bit of a perverse side when it comes to the humor. It's also a "fight the demons to save the world." title that many have burned out on. And even to those people, I'd say give Combustible Campus Guardress a chance - it really is that different. This is a title that I highly recommend, but I would say it also warrants caution due to it's nature. If this doesn't sound like the title for you, or you're just not feeling open minded enough to give it a chance; then you probably are better off not watching.
