When the city has problems that they can no longer handle, it is up to the mayor to call up team Warrior to get things done. They mayor then has to make additional budget allocations because not only does he have to pay for them, he has to pay for the destruction they leave behind as well. It's a good thing there's only 6 of them!
There's Lilika, the spoiled rich girl who had everything, but got bored with it so decided to become an uber computer hacker for the police instead. Maki, the woman with an iron will who acts as the brains and quite often ends up refereeing the team and keeping them from leveling the city. Rio is the all around action kung-fu babe. Maya is the gun toting maniac who is manly with the police so she can lawfully shoot at people. Nanvel the science wiz who always has a new invention for the team to try out. And Yugi, the guy who is... hopeless, and basically drives them all around.
At first call team warrior encounters a group of "terrorists" take over a hotel. The police are sent in to negotiate until the terrorists begin making their demands in exchange for the hostages. The demands are so absurd that only team warrior really seems to have the chance of getting anyone out of that building. But will pop singer Umi Kawai really bungee jump nude from the top of the hotel as the terrorists demand?
And not long after the first caper is solved, the second one is called in for team warrior. A kidnapping except that there isn't anyone to kidnap. Actually it's a virtual idol who is just a computer program after all, but how exactly do you rescue a program.
And these are just the beginnings. Because in fact there is a drug syndicate behind all of these crimes. But the drug is something unlike anything before it. It's a "virtual" drug that works by stimulating the optic nerve. But team warrior was only closing in when the drug syndicate strikes at police headquarters next. While team warrior and the syndicate have crossed paths before, it looks like it's time for a final showdown.

In hindsight it seems that Burn Up W was on the end of the 90's and seemed to be at the very tip of what would become the pointless fan-service/gimmick anime. That doesn't reflect too much on this title, it's just a passing thought on where anime was going at the time. As such you'll find that burn up is mainly a formula of police babes, big boobs, and action. The story while not totally solid is passable. The first two episodes are rather light, and the second two have a bit more of a dark feel to them.
Despite the lack of in depth substance to this title, I do still find that I have have a fondness for the title. It does quite well with the humor and action. There is defiantly a target audience for Burn Up W and it's not like this title has any hidden agendas lurking beneath the surface. There's police babes running around blowing stuff up. That's all you need to know when it comes to watching Burn Up W.
