I think there probably comes a time in every anime fan's life when you step back from something and think to yourself: "Man those Japanese are really crazy". Quite often many of us are willing to overlook the insanity for the sheer results. Take the Cutey Honey live action movie - something you'd think would end up being the dumbest thing ever. Yet it's bizarre and interesting. And when you couple that with cute Japanese girls in a costume fetish paradise, it's enough to straiten even the most bent queer eye. And thus sits the sheer craziness of Wedding Peach. However there is something to be said for a series which could make an extreme feminist have a seizure, puke up blood, then have their brain explode just by watching such a show.

But lets get down to business here and have a look at wedding peach. Actually, lets ignore the entire "wedding" thing for a moment and look at the rest of the elements. This show is a magical girl anime through and through. Themes and plot lines are stereotypical for such a series. Actually the characters are fairly stereotypical too for that matter. For those who study Japanese language there are interesting contrasts in the way characters speak. Momoko, the girl with huge pink borderline 80's hair; is the heroin of the show. Friendly and outgoing, she tends to use trendy hip lingo. Yuri is the proper feminine girl, who uses polite feminine language. Hinagiku is the tomboy sort of girl who uses rather brash not so feminine language.

One issue Wedding Peach has, is the fact that it is a magical girl anime and thus is stamped by many people as being a Sailor Moon clone, as they've typically seen Sailor Moon first and mistakenly think of Sailor Moon as some sort of innovator. Even if it were such a clone there are some improvements over SM. The animation is often slightly better, the characters are more interesting, and thankfully there is no Chibi-Usa. It's also more interesting in that all three girls in Wedding Peach get a love interest instead of just the main character.

So what is wrong with Wedding Peach? As far as magical girl anime goes, it's weak in animation and musically. The main problem with Wedding Peach is the entire absurdity of the whole concept. And believe me, if you think it's like a crazed 13 year old girl's fantasy from 5 minutes of learning things about Wedding Peach, it only gets worse. I mean these girls have to transform into wedding dress attire in order to build up "love energy". And even some of the attacks are just outright silly. I mean Wedding Peach obtains a "love gun" at some point, not to be confused with the less romantic view on love in Kiss album from the 70s. As such some people just won't watch it because they wont. I seriously doubt any guy will be dragging out his copies of Wedding Peach at his stag party.

So in conclusion Wedding Peach is ok for an anime, and certainly not all that bad for magical girl anime fans. It is to magical girl fans that I would primarily recommend this title to, or possibly guys who are open minded and have a good place to hide their copies of Wedding Peach from visitors.
