Seven Mortal Sins

Summary: >

Fallen from heaven, Lucifer crashes through the roof of a church and encounters Maria. Lucifer takes her heart in exchange for angelic blood because.. uh, yeah. Her decent to hell continues, where she encounters the seven sins. Lucifer's sin is pride, putting her at odds with the others. Although the ensuing battle results in Lucifer's loss, she hasn't given up. Now driven from hell, she'll instead challenge each of the sins on their own turf, and best them at their own game. Can pride triumph over all?

So, Seven Mortal Sins is pretty bad. I don't regret watching it, and I'd watch it again. Because... boobs. It's a soft-core porno anime that's upfront about why you're watching it, and embarrassingly so. That's fine, but many of the other aspects are kind of terrible. Which is too bad, since it there exists potential if it were done right.

Seven Mortal Sins forte is concentrated in the female character designs. Not surprising, since the anime is an adaptation of a popular figurine line (the anime certainly does these top notch art peices justice). Clearly there was a trade off in the budget, as the girls look great, but the rest flounders in quality - especially the animation.

The show is essentially a chain of fan service with girls who can't stop groping each other, in whatever new pervy situation is cooked up. Seven Mortal Sins especially falters in how scenarios are "tied" together with "plot", which is mostly nonsensical. The intent was likely putting characters in every titillating situation imaginable, but the sheer volume of them makes it feel spastic, and the injection of these scenarios into the "story" only hurts coherency which was already bad. On the plus side, filler is never dull in this anime.

I didn't find most characters that interesting either. I was certain Wrath would be my favorite girl, but she mainly highlights how poor action sequences play out (which it does plenty of). My favorite girl by far was Melancholy; an awkward girl who likes uploading super terrible rap videos to the internet. Her episode also features a music video which is the highlight of the whole anime. In fact there are a few musical parts featured in Seven Mortal Sins, which I generally liked, even if they feel a little out of place in this anime.

Towards the end, the plot almost goes somewhere. although it highlights how the rest of the show had been mostly pointless aside from featuring each girl. It fairs okay despite the poorly animated fights, and it makes up random shit on the fly to explain things.

My impression of Seven Mortal Sins isn't very bad, and I'm not entirely sure why. However objectively looking at it, the huge pile of problems stacks up enough to where I can't recommend this. I'm annoyed by the lack of effort put into the story, which would have been easily made better, and made this anime far more watchable. If attractive characters, piles of girl-on-girl action, and the occasional odd ball music segment can carry a show for you, maybe try it. I'll admit it, that was mostly enough for me.
