Mahoromatic: Summer Special

Summary: >

The impression you'd get from things around town is that everything is peaceful. That's not entirely true though. There is a WAR going on. A war where one man has to take a stand. To fight for what he believes in. It's a war between the overly idealistic maid Mahoro, and hormonally charged Suguru who must fight to keep his porno magazines.

Mahoro has had just about enough of Suguru's infatuation with pictures of exposed female bodies, and has been slowly widdling away at his collection by diligently picking them out with an uncanny precision. Then one day she hears about Suguru's "big stash". Most of her triumphs could be minuscule compared to this porn collection! This could be the big one and victory may finally be within reach. Mahoro gathers up the girls and even gets Ms. Shikijyo to go along with it. How will Suguru's trove of treasures survive?

Thoughts: >

Wait, an entire special dealing with hiding porn magazines? Yes! I think this is an oddball topic that should hit home with any guy. Even if we don't have magazines, we have well obfuscated porn directories on our computers. As the saying goes, there are two types of guys: guys who admit they look at porn, and guys who lie about it. It's an amusing topic oddly well suited to Mahoromatic.

As season two concluded Mahoromatic, this special is an insert into the middle of the story, when Minawa was a maid at Suguru's house. As much as I dislike Minawa, she thankfully didn't play much of a role here. This special feels much like season two with a LOT of fan service (exposed boobs are quite prevalent), but it does manage to be fun and induce a few laughs.

It moves along at a fast pace and felt a bit short, but I suppose that means I just wanted it to last longer. The dubbing was a mixed bag with some decent performances, and a few really weak ones. It's worth watching if you liked Mahoromatic before, but probably not if you haven't seen the series. Not that there's any deep plot elements to this one, but some of their behaviors only make sense if you've seen this series before.
