Laughing Target

Also known as: Warau Hyoteki

Summary: >

As a child Yuzura was arranged to marry his cousin... a young girl named Azusa. Unknown to anyone, she was possessed by dark spirits as a girl. She moved away, and many years have since passed. Yuzura forgot about his cousin, and is now an average teenager.

Azusa's mother dies, and she decides to visit the cousin she'd been promised to marry, and still intends to do so. Yuzura already has a girlfriend, but it's hard to turn down a gorgeous girl so intent on tying the knot. However as her feelings of rejection grow, the darkness insider of her will take hold.

Laughing Target is a one off OVA, released during the golden age of horror anime. It has a similar vibe to the Mermaid Saga also by Rumiko Takahashi. This review is short, because this show is likewise short so there isn't much to say about it. It's strait forward, but a good anime along the lines of a spooky ghost story.

Still, I think Yuzura needs to look at his situation. Looking at his current girlfriend, then looking at Azusa... well maybe a cousin isn't such a close relative that you could bend a couple natural laws. Sure she's possessed by massive amounts of evil, but everyone needs a little zest in their life right? A girl who's eyes glow in the dark could be handy as a night light. If I were Yuzura, I'd giving Azusa another chance and consider moving to Arkansas.

Laughing Target is nothing special, but well worth your time if into old school horror anime.
