Megami Paradise

So you may ask yourself: "Why did Archen make a page about Megami Paradise? is it the most groundbreaking series ever? Is the animation so good that people almost go blind in amazement? Is the topic so new that no one has ever even had the thought of such a thing? Well no to all three. It's just your regular type of anime. But there are NO pages on it! The only page I can find was Hitoshi Doi's page, which is basically informative, but pretty lack luster (but then again if you had 3500 pages would you spend a lot of time on a series?). Anyway, I thought that Megami Paradise was fairly good. Cute anime girls everywhere, good animation, and quite funny at times. It is certainly worth a little page.

So here it is, my little page dedicated to Megami Paradise. I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time elaborating on everything. After all, it's just two half hour OAV's , but you can find the basics here, and get the general idea. It's a series I recommend seeing if you have the time. Cute, entertaining, and worth renting.. (although paying a lot for buying the series may be another thing....)

Megami Paradise is the sort of place any guy would like to go.. after all, there are nothing but goddesses everywhere (megami means goddess in Japanese). But paradise has to be protected. For this, there are a select group of goddesses known as shrine maidens . Their job is to protect paradise from any evil that would happen to appear. The shrine maidens may protect paradise, but the one thing that truly upholds the tranquility is the orb known as the Astro Star. The Astro Star absorbs negative energy from the outside world. Once in a long while, it is the role of the head of the shrine maidens to purify the Astro Star, and purge it of evil. The head of the shrine maidens, known as the Mamamega, then must pass her position to a subordinate.

No problem so far right? Of course not... unless your a dark goddess. For every goddess, there is a dark goddess counterpart (although this isn't stated, I think it is more or less inferred). You see, the Astro Star also acts to repel the goddesses of darkness. The Astro Star can't be destroyed, or touched by a dark goddess... but you could send it into another dimension, then invade paradise... hmm... sounds like a plan....

Characters

	Lilith Lilith is a young goddess entrusted by the Mamamega to find new shrine maidens which have been chosen. She herself is a shine maiden, but rather new at it, and unsure of her abilities. Lilith is a summoning witch, which means she has the power to summon spirits.
	Julianna Juliana is said to be a master swordsman. Her first meeting with Lilith was off to a rocky start, but eventually they became friends. Juliana becomes a shrine maiden mainly for a chance to get at the dark goddesses. Her weapon is the sword.
	Stashia Stashia is a musician that enjoys playing the harp. Her music also has magical powers. She is not interested in becoming a shrine maiden for the glamour. Stashia does become a shrine maiden, but simply to look over Rurubell, since she is Rurubell's guardian.
	Rurubell Rurubell is a young enchantress who would like to become a shrine maiden. She accompanies Lillith to find the chosen maidens, but only ends up making a mess of the situation. She carries a scepter with her, but also uses other trinkets to aid her magic.

Angela Angela is a dark goddess, yet sweet and rather timid... you could say she's even somewhat cheery. (she almost doesn't fit in). Angela is a very good enchantress, capable of summoning spirits, and good with potions too. She also makes use of a war hammer.
Rouge Rouge is a dark goddess who, like Juliana, is skilled at the sword. She certainly gives Juliana a run for her money. Rouge is very aggressive and a very good fighter. She is also rather good at stealth
Maharaja Boisterous, confident, and certainly not a conservative dresser, Maharaja is probably the most out spoken of the dark goddesses. She also is capable of playing magical music, but not the caliber or power that Stashia is capable of playing. Maharaja's weapon is a whip.
Pastel Pastel is the youngest of the dark goddesses. She doesn't seem to get involved much, but simply acts as an emissary for the Yamimama. Like Rurubell she often uses a scepter, but she uses her powers for other things such as teleportation.

OAV 1 - Assemble: Shrine Maidens to The Mother Goddess

The time has finally come, when the Mamamega must preform her final duty and purge the Astro Star of evil which has accumulated over the years. Then another shrine maiden will take her place. As it happens another shrine maiden is seeking out candidates to become maidens. Lilith, is a young goddess and newly recruited shine maiden chosen to search for the candidates. She finds the first who's name is Stashia. Stashia however is not interested in the glamour of the shrine maidens, believing they have become mere ornaments. Lilith, having been turned down was on her way to seek out the next candidate when a young goddess named Rurubell introduces herself. Rurubell decides to tag along since she would also like to become a shrine maiden.

Lilith and Rurubell find the next candidate: The master swordsman Juliana. Rurubell decides to test Juliana with a few enchanted bubbles. Juliana however is not amused and proceeds to scare the young goddesses away. As Juliana is about to go about her business, a rain of fireballs flies from the forest. Juliana believes the two goddesses are responsible and decides to get even. Meanwhile there have been many attacks on goddesses, and by a misunderstanding Lilith and Rurubell are blamed. While scoping out their next candidate they are attacked... by strange goddesses. Luckily Juliana appears, along with Stashia. One of the strange goddesses then calls upon a very powerful spirit which attacks the goddesses. Lilith summons her courage and manages to call an even more powerful spirit. The strange goddesses are a bit embarrassed by their defeat, and decide to leave. So Lilith finally convinces the 2 candidates to become shrine maidens.... with a surplus maiden...

OAV 2 - Paradise Lost? Attack of Yamimama

Since there are to be new Shrine Maidens, a coronation ceremony is to be held. But something is wrong and the Mamamega has disappeared. The Mamamega's successor goes to check thing out, when all of the Shrine Maidens fall into a sleep. The only ones still awake are the 4 goddesses. Then the strange goddesses appear as the Mamamega's successor returns. The Mamamega is gone. The strange goddesses are in fact the shrine maidens of the Yamimama: the Dark Mamamega. The Mamamega was eliminated by the Yamimama (don't you wish they had shorter names?). The dark goddesses prepare to do combat when they are recalled by the Yamimama, who is about to begin the ceremony to get rid of the Astro Star. The dark goddesses disappear, along with Lilith.

Juliana and Stashia make their way to the sanctuary of the Yamimama... which sort of happened to pop up out of no where (evil castles seem to do that a lot in anime). Juliana and Stashia are then captured. Rouge and Maharaja decide to have some fun... with a little whipping (yeah like you didn't know there was going to be an S & M reference). Luckily Rurubell saves the day with all of her trinkets strung together... the resulting explosion manages to free her companions. Amazingly after their rescue, the goddesses are still alive and not blind. Finally they reach the Yamimama... but the dark goddesses reappear... and they aren't pleased. Lilith is tied up and the ceremony has already begun... will darkness prevail? Not if the shrine maidens can help it, it is their duty after all.

I used to have the opening song to Megami Paradise "Get My Way" up, but unfortunatly the server kicked the file off, and I don't have anywhere to re-upload it. Sorry Over all it's a good song (I really liked it anyway). Song length runs about 3:30.
