So you snoop around these anime sites, and occasionally you find the category with themes. I have occasionally looked at these things, but of course they require Micro$oft Plus. In my opinion, paying extra to configure stuff that you should have been able to configure in the first place is not a plus. It's almost as ludicrous as paying for Windows First Aid... But anyway, these themes offer all sorts of these anime costomizations. Personally, I'm glad I can't install them. The sounds that people put on these themes are just moronic. I really don't want my computer to scream and dance whenever ANYTHING happens. Basically what I've found is that every sound should be short, simple, and fairly quiet. I really can't imagine why anyone would want a 5 second error sound.

But the thing I find really weird are shrunken heads. "Look at me, I have anime icons." a person may say, but 99% of the time... they're just shrunken heads. I've always thought that icons were supposed to somehow correlate to the program, but that's just me. It's okay to have an interesting icon that you associate with certain file types. I for instance have this Vampire Miyu Icon of a mask that I've used for mp3's for 3 years. To me it seems really un-intuitive to have any other icon. But why would I want to click Asuka Langley Soryu's head to open a program? Customization is one thing, but little anime heads scattered across the desktop? That seems odd to me. I'd rather have a clear desktop with a few icons that actually relate to the program instead of a desktop that looks like an anime con meeting the French Revolution. This brings me to another point. Why in the hell would I want a little floating head as a cursor???? I've seen them, and it's weird. Not only do I have small anime heads on my desktop, but I also have this little animated head floating around as my cursor when my computer is busy! I'm so happy that technology has come so far as to allow us to have small floating heads on our computer screens. Ah, how our ancestors would have been baffled in amazement and envy...

I'm not saying that different icons are bad, it's just that people don't know what to do with them. Just look at winamp skins. How many anime skins do you know of that don't just have an anime characters face in exactly the same place? Compound the problem by only allowing a 32x32 icon, and people are at a total loss. If you think long enough, and hard enough, and look enough, you can find something that makes a good icon, and is anime related AND is not some animated characters head. I've made a couple myself, so I know it's possible.

customize = good

decapitated anime characters = bad
